Board Development Institute
The Board Development Institute (BDI) provides Catholic school leaders and active board members with the knowledge, skills, and strategies to manage high-functioning Catholic school boards.聽
A generous Healey Education Foundation grant supports the BDI, the nation's most comprehensive Catholic board formation program.
Beginning with the foundations, but going beyond the basics, the Board Development Institute equips school leaders and board members to:
- Strengthen and advance a school鈥檚 Catholic mission through purposeful board meetings, effective governance, and high-impact committee work
- Build the right board for the future by recruiting members with the talent, experience, and expertise schools need now and into the future
- Ensure long-term board vitality through intentional recruitment, leadership development, and succession planning
- Use meaningful data and key performance indicators to support mission clarity, financial health, and long-term competitiveness
- Partner strategically in institutional advancement, strengthening enrollment, development, marketing, and donor engagement efforts
- Cultivate a board culture rooted in trust, generative thinking, and visionary strategic leadership
The result is a high-functioning, mission-aligned board equipped to lead Catholic schools into a sustainable and faithful future.

Objectives
- The BDI spans ten months from September through June each year.
- Learn effective board management and visionary board leadership with virtual learning components and cohort engagement.
- Receive access to a library of board formation resources and best practices, ready for immediate implementation with your board.
- Gain exposure to board experts from leading Catholic schools and best-in-class nonprofits.
- Develop an individualized Board Development Plan, utilizing expert developed tools and resources.
- Join a community of Catholic schools and board leaders from across the country supporting your board鈥檚 development.聽
- Earn a AV诊所 College Executive Micro-Credential upon completion of the program.
- Enter a Roche Center network of 200+ transformative educational leaders.

When the school leader and more than half of the board members have completed the Board Development Institute (BDI), the Roche Center recognizes your board鈥檚 excellence in formation and effectiveness.

- to current Catholic school leaders and Catholic school board officers and members.
- Presidents/principals/heads of schools and their board chairs are encouraged to participate as school leadership teams.
2026-2027 Dates
- Welcome and Orientation: Wednesday, September 9, 2026 - 12:00pm ET
- Program Kickoff and Keynote: Tuesday, October 6, 2026 - 4:00-5:30pm ET
- Monthly Cohort Zooms: First Tuesday of the month, through May 2027
- Program Commencement: Tuesday, June 8, 2027 - 4:00-5:30pm ET
Costs
- $700 per school leader or board member
- $1,500 for a school leader/board team of up to four participants
- Board members are encouraged to personally assist with the cost of the program.
- We are committed to lifting barriers. Scholarships are available. If the subsidized tuition presents a challenge to you, contact Chris Martin at christopher.martin@bc.edu.
